Empowering Rural Youths: Launch of Unarmed Security Guard Skill Development Programme in Tirap

Khonsa, February 15, 2024: A training programme focusing on "Unarmed Security Guard" for unemployed youths in rural areas of Khonsa, Tirap District, was inaugurated on Thursday. Supported by the National Bank for Agriculture & Rural Development (NABARD) and executed by the Bethel Life Care Charitable Trust (BLCCT) in collaboration with Tirap-based NGO Seva Samithy, this initiative aims to equip over 30 participants with essential skills required for unarmed security guard roles in Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities.

The launch event witnessed the presence of significant figures, including Kamal Roy, District Development Manager of NABARD; APP, SI, Nokse Lowang; Chandan Prasad, President of BLCCT, and Jawang Lowangcha, Secretary of Seva Samithy NGO, alongside the selected trainees.

DDM NABARD, Kamal Roy, highlighted NABARD's developmental initiatives for rural areas, emphasizing the importance of unarmed security guards as a visible deterrent to safeguard properties. Roy urged the participants to actively engage in the training programme and emphasized regular attendance, encouraging them to view this opportunity as a stepping stone towards their future careers, gaining valuable experience while working in metropolitan cities.

APP, Sub-Inspector Nokse Lowang praised the initiative taken by BLCCT and NABARD, envisioning this training as a pathway to a promising future for the youth. Lowang encouraged participants to pursue placements in security agencies, recognizing the programme's potential to steer them away from the drug menace prevalent in the district.

Jawang Lowangcha, Secretary of Seva Samithy NGO, commended the trainees on their selection for the Skill Development Programme, underscoring the significance of participation in placement-linked training. He advised the participants to focus on improving communication skills and overall personality development, acknowledging their crucial role as unarmed security guards.

President of BLCCT, Chandan Prasad, provided an overview of the syllabus, curriculum, training duration, and objectives of the Unarmed Security Guard Skill Development Training. He emphasized the partnership with security guard placement agencies in cities, ensuring placement opportunities for trainees upon completion of the training and interview process.
