Namsai, January 24, 2024: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) achieved an important milestone by officially starting the construction of a Rural Haat at 2nd Mile in Namsai. The event was attended by CEO NOSAAP, Chau Athina Chauhai, local vendors, and vegetable growers.

During the ceremony, NABARD's District Development Manager, Kamal Roy, led the foundation stone laying to mark the beginning of the Rural Haat construction. NABARD's Arunachal Pradesh Regional Office is partnering with NOSAAP Producers Co. Ltd., a local farmers' organization, to fund the marketing infrastructure.

The upcoming Rural Haat aim to be complete market spaces, including a market shed with a raised platform, a small storage cum office area, fully equipped toilets, solar-powered lighting, and a well-managed waste disposal pit. This initiative aims to address the challenges faced by local farmers who currently sell their produce by the roadside, exposing them to harsh weather conditions and traffic risks.

After the ceremony, DDM NABARD, Kamal Roy, explained the core objectives of the Rural Haat project and outlined the execution process. He emphasized the important role of the Rural Haat Management Committee (RHMC), which will oversee the future operations of the market.

CEO NOSAAP, Chau Athina Chauhai, highlighted the strategic location of the Haat in the main market area of 2nd Mile, Namsai. He expects this prime location to boost sales of local produce, providing a convenient option for customers looking for fresh organic vegetables. He believes the Haat will address marketing challenges faced by local farmers, vegetable growers, and women's SHGs, giving them a platform to sell their agricultural and horticultural produce.
