First two solar dryers of Changlang district has been installed in Manmao and Nampong by Horticulture Department under DMF scheme.
As per the information, Changlang DC Devansh Yadav sanctioned Rs 1 lakh 20K under DMF scheme to procure the solar dryer which was procured by Horticulture Department from Raheja Solar Food Processing Pvt Ltd, Indore.
Both the dryers will be functioning under two NGO namely RERA Welfare Society, Manmao under Phenngi Ronrang and North East Entrepreneurs Association, Nampong under Phennem Tikhak.
The women from the two NGOs has been trained to operate and maintenance of the solar dryers.
The produces of the dryer will be marketed regionally enabling the locals to earn thier own livelihood. The solar dryer will be able to dry 60 Kg of fruits or vegetables at one time. The drier can be used for drying edible goods like bamboo shoot, fruits, vegetables, meat, spices etc.
On the sideline of the Installation, Changlang DHO said that it can be a good income generating factor for women sorority if properly managed and utilized.
He further added that with proper drying, packaging and marketing of the foods dried with the solar drier, the women of the above mentioned associations can benefit from it.
It might be a small venture but the initiative signify the changes the constituety under MLA Laisam Simai is heading towards, said an excited observer who also believes that the constituency should create more such ventures where people can engage themselves to earn thier livelihood with dignity.
