Staff Reporter:

3rd January 2024, Itanagar: In a significant stride towards promoting indigenous products, NABARD has successfully facilitated the Geographical Indications (GI) registration for three iconic products from Arunachal Pradesh. Adi Kekir (Ginger), Handmade Carpet, and Wancho Wooden Craft have now secured the prestigious GI tag, reinforcing the unique identity and cultural significance of these offerings.

Out of the 18 products endorsed by NABARD for GI registration, six have achieved the coveted certification, marking a notable achievement in the preservation and promotion of regional diversity. NABARD remains committed to supporting the 'vocal for local' initiative, aligning its efforts with the initiatives of the State Government.

As part of its commitment to ensuring the success of these endeavors, NABARD is providing financial assistance and leveraging the expertise of Dr. Rajni Kant, a distinguished Padma Shri awardee and specialist in the field. Dr. Rajni Kant's valuable insights contribute to the robust implementation of the GI registration process.

Looking ahead, NABARD is actively working on expanding the GI Kit, with an expectation that an additional 12 products from Arunachal Pradesh will secure GI certification by the end of this month. This initiative aims to enhance the economic prospects of local communities and promote sustainable development.

Expressing pride in this achievement, a senior official from NABARD's Arunachal Pradesh Regional Office stated, "It is a proud moment, and we are committed to intensifying our efforts in the State of Arunachal Pradesh to further empower local producers and artisans."
